On Thursday 26 January 2023, our Bushra Ali Hosted and Chaired the Panel discussion in North Wales and on Zoom on the subject of Tackling Hate Crime in our Societies.
We had an esteemed panel consisting of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Community Cohesion Officer, Head of Diversity at North Wales Police, Hate Crime Officer, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, Hate Crime Lead at Victim Support and two individuals who shared their lived experience.
The event was well received with many questions coming from the in-person audience and those on Zoom.
Education is key as is raising awareness. What is also key is to consult those very individuals that are underrepresented in the Police to ensure environments are for example, trans-friendly, BAME friendly, disability friendly and so on.
Hate crime is on the rise, particularly so for groups of individuals such as the trans community and we all have the responsibility to spread the message that hate crime will not be tolerated in our society.
